Hiking Eagle Creek Trail to High Bridge

Originally published May 6, 2016

There are many great hiking trails in Oregon, almost too many to choose from! The decision becomes more difficult with the limited choices in the winter. Eagle Creek is open year-round and is easily accessible from I-84. With the difficulty level spanning from easy to difficult, this trail can work well for any group.

A few of my family members and I love this hike because of the multiple

waterfalls, scenic views, and year-round access. Our turnaround point this trip was at High Bridge, which is just over 6 miles out and back. With the misting rain and low hanging clouds, we were able to avoid larger crowds of hikers and stop and take our time looking at the waterfalls without feeling pressured to move quickly.

We luckily hiked this trail before the most recent storms which have ruined a bridge allowing hikers to pass Tish Creek. The trail is not accessible past Tish Creek for at least a year, but you can still access the gorgeous Punch Bowl Falls area and enjoy the scenery until you reach that point. There is never a boring moment on this trail due to the basalt cliffs and the amazing waterfalls, however, I would recommend wearing comfortable shoes that protect the bottom of your feet from the rocky terrain.
