New Fiscal Project: Brown Folks Fishing

Brown Folks Fishing (BFF) is a national, angler-led initiative that launched in Spring 2018 that cultivates the visibility, representation, and inclusion of people of color in sport fishing and the fishing retail industry.

The group has grown into an organization with a dedicated, multidisciplinary team of ambassadors, leveraging innovative media platforms to diversify the face of fishing and to center the stories of people of color within the fishing and conservation field, and larger political and cultural discourse..

This organization works at the intersection of EDI (equity, diversity, and inclusion), media, and fishing as a gateway to conservation. It does this through facilitating both an online platform and in-person spaces that provide advocacy, mentorship, and community building. BFF also fosters and facilitates conversations between anglers of color, thought leaders, and stakeholders across the fishing community.

Founder and angler, Tracy Nguyen-Chung, is a Partner and Creative Director at After Bruce, co-director of Brown Girls Doc Mafia, and a documentary filmmaker. She co-produced the Netflix documentary, The Great Hack, which premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. Tracy is a Lewis & Clark College graduate and received a Master’s Degree in Conflict Resolution from the Monterey Institute of International Studies.
