OSP Fish & Wildlife Conservation K-9, Buck, Retires

The Oregon State Police (OSP) Fish & Wildlife Division, the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife (ODFW) and the Oregon Wildlife Foundation (OWF) held a retirement celebration for OSP Wildlife Conservation K-9 Buck on May 20, 2026, in the Commission Room at ODFW headquarters in Salem.

Buck retired after seven years and six months of service. He and Senior Trooper Wolcott were deployed in the field and across the state 184 times and participated in 156 outreach events. Some of Buck’s deployments led to the recovery of key evidence that contributed to convictions in wildlife crime investigations, as well as homicide and major assault cases.

K-9 Drake is now assigned to Senior Trooper Wolcott and was introduced during the May 20 event. Buck remains with the Wolcott family.

The Wildlife Conservation K-9 program is partially funded through donations. Oregon Wildlife Foundation has partnered with OSP to cover a portion of startup and maintenance costs associated with the K-9 member of each team. That partnership continues as the program expands to other regions of the state. The Foundation has a dedicated fund to receive donations to help offset costs associated with K-9 training, equipment, veterinary care, and grooming.
